Research Federation Unit: Europe in Motion (History, Law, Economics and Cultural Identities)

Headed by Bruno Trescher

    Presentation

The Europe in Motion (Europe en mutation – EuroMut) Research Federation Unit was created in 2009 on the initiative of the heads of its constituent research units. It brings together research units and joint research units (UMR) in legal sciences as well as a research laboratory in management sciences and economics.

The following are also attached to the federation:

    • The Carré de Malberg Research Institute (Institut de recherches Carré de Malberg – IRCM) - UR 3399
    • The Centre for International and European Studies (Centre d'études internationales et européennes – CEIE) - UR 7307
    • The Centre for Fundamental Rights and Private Law (Centre de droit privé fondamental – CDP) - UR 1351
    • The Management and Economics Research Laboratory (Laboratoire de recherche en gestion et économie – LaRGE) - UR 2364
    • The Research Laboratory of the Centre for International Intellectual Property Studies (Centre d'études internationales de la propriété intellectuelle – Ceipi) - UR 4375
    • The Law, Religion, Business and Society Laboratory (Droit, religion, entreprise et société – DRES) - UMR 7354

The federation is particularly interested in changes in European (Council of Europe and European Union) and domestic law, as well as normative and institutional interactions between national legal systems. Its scientific approach is intended to be systemic and multidisciplinary.

The research federation has 2 essential missions:

    • Designed with a view to sharing resources, it is, firstly, a service platform that supports its member units. This structure enables the research units to retain their scientific and financial autonomy while benefiting from pooled resources.
    • Secondly, it is a driving force for a multidisciplinary approach not only within the legal sciences by enabling collaborations that go beyond the respective fields of each unit, but also with other disciplines, particularly economics, management sciences and historical sciences. The federation is thus interested in changes in European (Council of Europe and European Union) and domestic law, as well as in normative and institutional interactions between national legal systems. Similarly, the federation is interested in the reform of the legal system in the face of the challenges of sustainable development as well as the profound changes linked to digital transition, particularly due to the rise of artificial intelligence (AI).

    Research topics

Fundamental rights of and in the company

The aim is to carry out a systematic study of the construction of normative spaces for the protection of human rights, fundamental social rights and fundamental rights of the company in the European area (European Union/Council of Europe synergies, influence of corporate social responsibility on the law).

    Rights and mobility

The aim of this topic is to model the resistance of national spaces to the consequences of the mobility of the factors of production and of people. We focus on the consequences of digital technology on national rights and on the constituent elements of states. Concepts that favour intra/extra-European migrations are also studied.

European integrations, history and security (security of systems, spaces, people and products)

This theme studies security in spaces of freedom of movement, in particular by analysing the transformation of the border, the consideration of transnational business development strategies and contractual security. It also studies European integration in its relationship with States, in the context of globalisation.
